Over the last few months we’ve been working with first-time entrepreneurs, helping them drive their idea forward and build a successful business.  Not only is there a set formula of steps to take to practically get the business set up, but there’s also a number of common mindset traits that we saw shared by the most successful entrepreneurs (those that were moving the fastest, getting the most traction, and ultimately the happiest with their own progress!

Determination

When you set out to become an entrepreneur, you are required to set very clear goals – BHAG. Whether it be growing your business, generating more leads or converting these leads into paying customers, this type of workload and challenge is enough to stop many people from pursuing the entrepreneurial career path. Before you even start you must be determined to make and believe that your business idea will work. A lack of determination will result in everything else crumbling down. You must be able to live with uncertainty and push through a crucible of obstacles for years on end.

Understand and accept failure

Understanding that failure is part of the game is essential. It is how we as entrepreneurs deal with failure that sets us apart. Fail fast and fail often is the trick here. Making a speedy recovery after any failure will ensure a great outcome. Richard Branson experienced this at an early age when he was faced with one of his biggest failures. The key to overcoming it was to understand, learn and accept it. Instead, failure gave him extra motivation to set out to build a business he believed in.

Passion

Passion fuels determination. If you aren’t truly passionate about what you are doing, the added passion could put pressure on you and result in additional stress. If you love what you do, you will be more productive.

Expert at networking

‘Your network is your net worth.’ Truly so, the more you build relationships and form real bonds, the more you can reap. Networking can not only help your business currently but in the future as well. You should always know how you can help someone and provide value to them before even thinking about how the relationship will be potentially beneficial to you.

Adaptable

If entrepreneurs had the ability to predict the future, all would be well, BUT they don’t. Even with a well thought out plan, there may be obstacles in the way. Being adaptable allows you to make decisions quickly that will navigate you out of trouble and allow you to thrive in environments that demand you to swim when sinking.

Stay curious

‘Curiosity killed the cat’ does not apply here. A thirst for knowledge will enable them learning new skills. Learning new skills gives entrepreneurs new ideas to incorporate into their businesses.

Focus

Probably one of the most important traits of a successful entrepreneur. Successful people develop the ability to focus and concentrate to maximize their resources and forces, also eliminating the ability to become distracted.

Vision

Vision is what makes them dare to explore, dare to challenge, dare to take risks, dare to insist, dare to keep pushing, dare to have the determination to succeed. Vision is the energy that provides an entrepreneur and its organization with the ability to perform and succeed. Vision is a constant reminder of the end goal and it is the driving force of any business.
