Mastering Instagram for your business

Instagram has become an effective tool in growing businesses. It allows you to upload images, videos and have short Insta stories show casing your business in real time.

Here are my top tips for mastering Instagram:

  • Optimise your hashtags

Hashtags are great ways to boost your organic growth. It expands your reach, distribution and exposure – allowing you to connect with a larger audience with similar interests. Master your hashtags and watch how you bring in free leads.

Bonus: If your Instagram page is private then there’s really no point hash tagging. Photos on private accounts are only visible to your approved followers so hash tagging really isn’t going to do anything for your likes.

  • Customize your bio

Your bio is one of the first things people see when encountering your profile on Instagram. Make sure people will want to tap the follow button by giving them insight into who you are and what you offer.

  • Find your peak hour

There are certain times during the day when images and videos receive more likes and comments. However, I cannot point out exactly what those times are – for each business or individual hey may vary – so try and test and hope for the best.

Here is a general rule about finding your best time to post on Instagram:

Post more during off-work hours instead of during the day – as more individuals are preoccupied during the day.

Bonus: You can now schedule your posts using various applications to post during the work day so you don’t have to worry about it during your free time.

  • High quality pictures always win

Instagram is an image-based social platform, meaning that content you post is what will interest users. Capturing good photographs for Instagram requires planning and experimenting.

  • Tag people and brands

Tagging friends and/or brands in your images simply means an increase in exposure and visibility. Another easy way to get recognised with minimal effort and no extra cost – I simply love using this tip for my business.

Bonus: A bold picture is more likely to capture the attention of individuals. Having an image with vibrant colours will make your image stand out amongst a stream of tagged images.

  • Build anticipation and offer exclusivity

Keeping your customers interested is an essential part of any effective marketing campaign. Reward your loyal followers with exclusive content or free templates. Let them be the first to know about new products, services or events.

Whether it’s a discount code your followers can use within X amount of days, or a giveaway, giving a little can result in a lot!

  • Keep you online personality intact

Whether you are posting on your personal account or your business account, always stay true to your brand. This ensures that people recognise you and can easily find you – don’t make the mistake of just posting to keep your page active. Post with a plan and purpose.

Bonus: Make use of pictures that reflect your online voice and the emotion your brand portrays.

  • Build User Generated Content

User Generated Content is key in effectively generating real, authentic marketing images created by and for your consumer. Ask your fans and followers to contribute their own pictures, giving credit to them and building up your brand and allowing customers to connect with the brand on a deeper level.

Bonus: Including a CTA in your giveaway helps to facilitate organic growth in a much more direct way.
